Lace Shawl Workshop - Southern Wool Show
Julie will be running a workshop from 2-4 pm at the new Southern Wool Show which takes place on Saturday 1 September at Newbury Racecourse, Newbury, Berkshire. Book here to guarantee your place (you may be able to book on the day if any places are still available but the workshop is limited to a maximum of 10 participants).
Introduction to Knitted Lace Shawls
Ideal for those with a basic knowledge of knitting, this workshop will teach you how to produce a simple top-down knitted lace shawl. You'll need to know how to cast on, knit and purl, work basic increases and decreases and cast off. You'll learn how to work a 'garter stitch tab' (the starting point for many shawl designs); how to create the holes and decreases that form a lace pattern; how increases influence the shape of the shawl; how to work an edging; options for casting off to give your shawl a beautiful finished edge; plus tips for blocking your shawl.
The cost of the workshop includes a 20g mini-skein of designer hand-painted yarn in pure wool or alpaca, enough to make a doll-sized version of the shawl, plus a pattern for a full-sized shawl to take away with you. All you need to bring is a pair of straight needles or a fairly short circular needle (40-60cm is ideal). We'll be working with 4-ply yarn, so please bring size 3.75mm or 4mm needles.
