I hope everyone who celebrates it enjoyed a good Christmas and like us are looking forward to a New Year. For Watercolours and Lace, it also means a new season of yarn events and we'll be busy travelling around the country again in 2015.
Our first event will be Waltham Abbey Wool Show on Sunday 18 January - a nice one-day show to kick off the New Year. We had a great day here in 2014, so really looking forward to it. Our range has expanded hugely since then, so if you came last time you'll see a big difference in what we have on display. Several of the events we'll visit in 2015 are repeats of 2014 shows, but there are a couple of new ones booked - Edinburgh Yarn Festival in mid-March (we love Scotland, and this will be our first yarnie visit) and p-LUSH (like Crufts for alpacas!) in Coventry at the end of March. Among new products for 2015 we're offering the first in a series of quarterly Yarn Clubs. Subscriptions for "Passion for Purple" are now available - for the next three months we'll be sending out skeins of exclusive club yarns in varying shades of purple in beautiful fibre blends from our lace and 4-ply ranges. More details here. We're also continuing to add to our yarn range and hope to include a number of limited edition yarns in 2015 - sometimes we can only obtain a few kilos of something that isn't repeatable but we don't want our customers to miss out, so these will be listed in the webstore in due course. In the meantime, we hope you have a wonderful New Year and that 2015 brings you peace, good health and good company - and lots of time for knitting and crochet, of course!! We're now back from our trip to Harrogate and our first experience as exhibitors at a Knitting and Stitching Show. We had a great time, met loads of lovely people from all over the UK and beyond, and had excellent sales - a big thank you to everyone we saw and talked to. We got back to Norfolk very tired after our first four-day event, but thrilled with the response to our stand. We've already booked to go back next year so hope to meet lots of your again then!
Many of our lines proved extremely popular - Alan virtually sold out of his owl stitch/crochet markers, plus a number of project bags and needle rolls. The crochet flower brooches and the kits to make them flew off the stall from early on Thursday until Sunday - I was kept busy in the evenings getting more ready for stock! I'll be loading lots more onto the site over the next couple of weeks. We also sold loads of yarn - the remaining stocks will be appearing in the web store as quickly as I can get them done. If there is any type or colour you're looking for in particular, do please contact us and I'll get what we have listed for you. I’ve also managed to get hold of a couple of kilos of Cashmere/Silk fine lace (1,400m/100g), so that will be available at Harrogate too, and on the website immediately afterwards. Golden Sunset is pictured right. We'll also be launching some new packs of mini-skeins in fine silk, alpaca and merino yarns, following requests from embroiderers, lacemakers and crocheters. Each pack will contain 5 different colours of a single yarn type. Hope to see lots of you at Harrogate over the four days - don't forget, the show is open until 7pm on the Thursday. There's a special discount for our customers so you can buy advance tickets for just £11 (normally £13). Simply quote EX14 when booking. Visit the website here or call 0844 848 0155. I’ve been given 4 complimentary tickets for the Knitting and Stitching Show at Harrogate where we’re exhibiting next month. They’re valid for either Thursday 20th (10am - 7pm), Friday 21st (10am - 5.30pm) or Sunday 23rd November (10am - 5pm) (but NOT the Saturday, sadly).
The on-the-door price is £16 per person or £13 for advance bookings. If you're interested, please leave a message via the contact page before midnight on 31 October and I’ll enter you in the draw for a ticket! Added a new yarn to the range last night - Cashmere Cotton Fine Lace. You'll find it under Cashmere Blends in the Lace section.
It has the softness of both fibres mixed into a smooth, light yarn that I think will be warm in winter and cool in summer. Should be great for wedding and party shawls. As cotton doesn't take acid dye in the same way as animal fibres, the cotton element has the potential to fade with time, rather like denim jeans. Hope you like it - a few shades available now, with more to come later this month (when I've finished preparing for Bakewell Wool Gathering!). I see one of my Ravelry group members has snapped one up already - that was quick! She tells me it managed to just "fall" into her shopping cart - surprising how often that happens to some of us :) My first blog post on the new website! Hello and welcome, whether you're a new visitor or you've arrived here from my old blog. Hope you like the new site, and that you'll find lots to interest you. The blog will enable me to keep you up to date with new products, as well as the events we're attending in the near future. We're always happy to hear any suggestions and comments on our range of yarns, designs and accessories, and look forward to meeting lots of you as we continue our travels to yarn events around the UK. Here are some pics from our stand at Yarndale last weekend - our first visit and hopefully not our last. We had a great time and enjoyed meeting lots of you - everyone was incredibly friendly, and our visit was good fun, as well as hard work. Our next event is Bakewell Wool Gathering on 18-19 October. Haven't been to Derbyshire for a while, so looking forward to that. Hope to see you there!
