Sorcha Shrug Pattern
Sorcha (pronounced Sor-ka) is a simply-shaped shrug, knitted in laceweight or 4-ply, featuring a traditional Shetland lace pattern.
The main piece is a simple rectangle worked flat, and stitches for the ribbed cuffs and edging of the laceweight version are picked up and worked in the round.
For the 4-ply version the cuffs are knitted flat and the edging picked up along them so that the cuffs can be fastened with buttons. (The cuffs could also be worked in the round if preferred.)
Although the lace pattern is worked on both right and wrong side rows, the background is garter stitch so this is fairly simple to knit. The pattern can be adapted for working with a stocking stitch ground if preferred.
The size is easily adjustable for both width and depth - instructions for Small, Medium and Large sizes are included.
The design is recommended for intermediate knitters or those with some experience of knitted lace.
My samples were worked using 1 skein of Blue Faced Leicester Purest Lace (dark blue), 1 skein of Mohair Lace (lavender), and 2 skeins of British Suri Alpaca Silk 4-ply (2-tone blues). The pattern is charted and fully written.
