Introduction to Fair Isle Knitting
Fair Isle knitting need not be difficult. Julie will introduce you to knitting “in the round”, how to read a Fair Isle pattern, working with two colours, how to work a “steek” and how to finish your work. These techniques are incorporated in a pattern of your choice selected from a headband, a mobile phone cover with drawstring or pair of wrist warmers. The wrist warmer provides an option to “steek” and cut open your knitting for a button on closure, often a challenge to newcomers to Fair Isle.
Patterns and yarn are provided with a choice of suitable colours, together with a written guide to enable you to finish your work at home, as it's unlikely that most people will finish in the time available. You should have a basic knowledge of knitting and be able to cast on, knit, purl and cast off.
Knitting needles are not provided but can be purchased on the day. You'll need size 3.25mm in either a short circular needle (40cm) for working the headband, or a set of 4 or 5 short double-pointed needles for the phone cover or wrist warmers.
